We
are excited that the DNC has chosen Denver
for 2008 and look forward to realizing our shared values of a healthy, fair and
just economy that provides for a democratic voice at work. We have
worked hard in Denver and across the region to
re-build Colorado’s
middle class and ensure that worker concerns are heard and addressed in our
City and State. Through the leadership of
Chairman Dean, we have begun to address outstanding labor concerns and
will continue to work toward resolution in the coming months.
Denver’s selection has come in a flurry - not just of snow, but of the
ever-present reality that thousands of Colorado
workers do not have a voice on the job. The struggles of convention and
hotel workers in Denver
are a call to elected officials to support democracy beyond the ballot box and
into the workplace. We believe that the DNC Convention will help uplift
this core principle of our democracy and support the efforts of hard-working
men and women to unite together for fairness and dignity.
Denver's selection has much to do with the fact
that working people in Colorado
have put our faith in Democratic leaders to create an economy that works
for all of us. We hope to work with the Mayor, Governor and our new legislature
to help workers gain the freedom to form a union - the vehicle that has given
millions of working families hope to achieve the American Dream.
