AFL-CIO Union Cities Program

As a Union City labor council of the AFL-CIO, the Denver Area Labor Federation is moving an intense program of member education, coalition building, and leadership development to foster greater union mobilization in support of organizing, political involvement, and community action to build power for working families.

DALF is continuing to move pro-actively — assessing our power and moving policy to encourage organizing and increase the profile of worker issues at the municipal level. We continue to support the political mobilization of the statewide labor movement, while sharpening our focus on pro-worker municipal policy, member-based political accountability, and organizing.

New Alliance Program

In March of 2002, the unions of Colorado adopted the following programmatic areas for our movement.  DALF’s annual plan and work continue to increase our program capacity, involving more than 40 local unions in electoral and policy campaigns and strategic planning:

Political and Legislative Action: Build a political program in the Metro Area that elects leaders and moves policies and legislation to build power for working families.

Organizing: Support increased local union and multi-union organizing by providing strategic support for organizing campaigns, and creating a better political/community climate for organizing workers.

Mobilization and Community Coalitions: Develop a year-round capacity to move our members and community allies in support of working families’ political and organizing campaigns.

Education: Establish internal and external education and communication capacity to build broad and deep support for these political and organizing programs.
